What is Kuohu and who's there?

The Finnish word kuohu means white water. Water so strong it can shape stone and produce power. But that's not all it means. It can also be an outburst of feelings or when things are happening with great intencity. Oh, and it's the sparkling of Champagne too! So a very festive and powerful name for a music studio!

Kuohu Studios was originally founded in 2019 by music producer Oona Kapari, lyricist Maria Santavuori and musician Sanna Korkee close by to an old water power plant at Vanhankaupunginkoski. A few years later Kapari's longing for a floating recording room grew so much that she decided to move to new studio premises in Kruununhaka, Helsinki. The new Kuohu Studios, opened with artist Irene in 2022, quickly gained popularity, especially amongst women and non-binary producers and songwiriters. Ever since then Kuohu Studios has been collaborating with a variety of indie artists and bands, including clients such as Elsi Sloan, Mia Hafrén, Iiro Ollilla, Päivi Hirvonen, Juurakko, Karri Lehtonen, Eroma and Anna Lumikivi. Studiomanager Oona Kapari often sits in the control room as an in house engineer, and the other two rooms are used by a variety of songwriters and producers.

Kuohu Studios answered to a deep need for safer spaces in the music industry and now holds that reputation with a high sense of responsibility and pride.
